Summary of learning!

In my Ecmp. 355 class I have learned more then I thin I could ever remember. Cassandra Lechler and I decided to create a Whiteboard animation to showcase our learning’s throughout the semester. Check it out:

I also wanted to mention a few of my other favorite things from the class. First I wanted to say I really enjoyed getting to work with other classmates to be able to explore a new tech tool. We used Storybird, you can check out the site here to create digital stories with your class.

Here is the awesome group of girls I worked with

Lastly I had a great time making the table and bench for my family. I become more amazed every day with all the things you can learn to do on the internet.

First flick

Tonight I got to create a 5 card flicker. I find it a very interesting way to tell a story.

Today as I search for a place to relax, I found a nice quiet place to sit and listen to the waves splashing on the rocks.

I was then able to walk through the gardens and smell the flowers.

After my log relaxing sit and walk through, I decided it was time to have some fun. I went to the beach and enjoyed a long swim, beach volleyball, and a little time to suntan.

Now I am feeling Hungary so I drove my old truck to a abandoned barn then had a picnick.

By the end of the day I was so tired, I drove home, parked my car down the street from the beautiful  building you see, and went home.

Searching for beautiful places!

Social Justice, where do we fit in?

We often see people making comments on the social media sites we all belong to that are causing negative stereotypes about certain types of people based on recent news events they see in the media. As an example if we take the events that have recently happened in Paris

Paris Attacks Kill More Than 100, Police say, Boarder Controls Tightened

Then you have a threatening group Like ISIS claiming responsibility for this catastrophic event, which you can read about here.

People are attacking Muslims from all over the world. They are making the assumption that they are all responsible for what has happened and that all Muslims have the same ideas an beliefs as the group known as ISIS. Muslims are feeling unsafe heres and example i seen on twitter

Why is it fair that a stereo type can be made to make these people feel this way? So as we all sit and read all of the comments being made, or let innocent people being attacked for no reason how is it any better? We all need to take the time to speak up about this injustice being done. We need to help put a stop to it.

I’m ready to eat!

So over the last few moths I have been working to build my family a new table and bench for our kitchen. I am happy to say I am done finally. Woo Hoo! I bet you guys are ready to see it. Well here it is….

I have to tell you I have had so much fun building these projects. I never thought the internet could be so much help. Okay maybe I did but I never really took the time to use it like this before. Now that I have shown my family my finished project, they all want one. Maybe I will have to quit school and become a carpinter!

Nah Ill stick to doing it for fun.

Now that I am done check out my learning resources page so you can see all of the sites I used to help me with my project, I even list all the pro’s and con’s of each.

I cant wait to use my table!

On average I have been working about 3 hours a week on this project. I am really having a lot of fun. I find it a bit of a stress re-leaver, with the hammering and drilling. Seeing as I have done the bench first, I do not need to use as many internet resources to build the table.

As I put my table together, it may look a lot like when I built the bench. However, believe me their was different challenges. For instance when your table is large and heavy,

How do i flip it over to put the middle pieces in all by my self? It was a struggle I tell you, but I managed to do it. I even flipped it back again see…

From here I was able to align all the table top pieces and screw them down. The two end pieces were very difficult to do because I had to hold them down and screw them in at the same time. Now it looks like the table I was hoping for.

I am so excited it has turned out so well. All that us left for me to do is stain and finish it. Below are a few more photos of the building process:

Now that I can sit where shall I eat?

So now that I have successfully built a bench (it has not fallen apart even with 4 people on it), I need a table. Currently the one I have is really small, and does not look anywhere as nice as my bench. So My solution is to build one. I have added an link to the table that I am building.

First I had to buy the materials, and do you know how hard it is to find ceder 4×4,s? I had to go to four stores to find them. The people who were helping me looked at me like I was a little slow not knowing it was not that popular. Oh well, I found it and now I can use it.

Once again I cut all my wood all bye myself, and did not get hurt once! Not even a sliver.

Did you it takes about 3 hours to cut all the wood to make a table. Measure, double check, cut and check one more time.

The Great Facebook Debate!

As a mother of two young children, I wonder why teachers use Facebook in the classroom. Should this not be a tool for outside the class to use with friends and family? When you are posting photos of my children, I don’t know if I want them to be seen by all of your friends. I take the privacy of my family very seriously.

I think that with my children being so young they do not need to be on such things as Facebook. Putting them out their on the Internet will stay forever, no matter how hard you try to remove it. Children should have the opportunity to fully understand a service before they can use it. My daughter can’t even read yet, and she will be all over the Internet. I mean come on.

My final concern with Facebook and my children is how involved are they with the page, and as a parent how involved will I have to be. Are my kids going to have to put hours a week into this page. I am not sure I have an abundance of time to be on Facebook. I can barely be on it now, let alone having to help navigat my children through it.  My final question to you As a teacher is: what’s the point?

i would like to thank Cassandra for your wonderful response to this post. This gives me a lot to consider about Facebook in the classroom.
